Review Title:
A FINE INDOOR ANTENNA - Superior Technical Support if Needed

  • Overall Review:
  • After four hours of trying various positions, heights, and scans with the Antop Flat-Panel Smartpass Amplified Outdoor Indoor TV Antenna with High Gain 4G LTE Filter, I was not able to get a better over-the-air TV reception than with my $50 flat antenna. In fact, it was worse. I had really looked forward to having the Antop antenna to improve the often less than perfect reception with my current antenna. That is why I spent so much time trying to make the Antop work. Before giving up on it and providing a frustrating 1-star review, I decided to call the company for technical support. I could not imagine a company producing such a low quality product. Jennifer in technical support went through a long check list of things that might be causing a problem. She suggested putting the antenna on the floor and scanning with the yellow light on. That was better but not an improvement over the existing antenna. The next suggestion was to remove the amplifier and rescan. That change, one that I would have never thought of, has made the reception near-perfect for all but one channel and the picture quality is amazing for all of the stations. After several weeks, the reception worsened, so I again called Jennifer. I left a message for her to call. I was most impressed when she returned my call at what appeared to be after hours. She did not hurry me at all. She looked up the reception map and noted how our channel 4 is really on channel 25. She explained how the lower channels are redirected to the UHF band. She also gave excellent tips on how the antenna works and where my best placement might be. She suggested reinstalling the amplifier. Our reception is much better - still not perfect but we will keep experimenting. Based upon the information that Jennifer provided, the stations that we are having difficulty receiving are just problem stations and not the fault of the antenna. The antenna comes with a 40 ft. coaxial cable so it could be mounted on a high mast to pick up distant channels. The mounting hardware appears to be top quality. It is an attractive design. The shipping box was completely wrapped in multiple layers of plastic so that rain or moisture would not damage the product during shipping.

Sometimes spending a little more money is worth it. This was worth it IMO.

  • Overall Review:
  • A little pricey. I could have done a $25 HD antenna that you see out there that covers close to 50 miles. This one is a little bigger than I had thought it would be. I should have read the description better as I'm using this in house. This one says its good up to 80 miles and can be used indoor or outdoors. I'm picking up so many OA stations it seems to be doing its job. I recently cut Directv and doing a Tivo OA DVR and Playstation Vue for my cable channels getting my over all bill down and saving $120 a month. Well worth the transition for me and I wanted a high quality HD Antenna so I was willing to spend the money on it. I didn't want to take a chance on a cheaper product and not get the reception I was looking for.

Review Title:
An Awesome Over the Air Antenna!

  • Overall Review:
  • I bought an indoor set top amplified signal antenna from Radio Shack (r.i.p.) about 30 years ago and I loved it. It worked well and had a rotating control so that you could optimize the directional angle of the antenna. The power cord was a bit short but I used an extension cord so it was ok. I paid about $35 for it back then. After taking several falls and a dog that mistook it for a chew toy it quit working. By then I had cable so a replacement wasn't needed.

Early last year I got disgusted with my cable company and decided to bag it. I have a sizable movie collection and there are some easy to receive OTA channels so I said goodbye to cable and satellite tv. I've had a couple of cheap antennas and they did bring in a few more channels but they wore out from the sunlight coming thru the window.

I initially had sticker shock when I saw the price for this antenna but the positive reviews swayed me. And nothing else is as cheap as it was 30 years ago, either. So I bit and I'm glad I did. I live in the Myrtle Beach area and now I get clear reception from stations in Charleston, Wilmington and Columbia plus the local MB and Florence stations. Although it varies with the current weather conditions, I now get about 25 channels during the day versus eight or nine with the old, flat paper-thin antenna I had. At night after the Heaviside layer is up high, I get close to 40 usually and have gotten more. I have this antenna sitting atop a bookcase that is underneath a window. It comes with the hardware needed for mounting outdoors, but in the rainy with frequent thunderstorms area that I'm in I would not risk mounting this antenna outdoors.

It came with clear instructions and a generous length of coax cable. The run is from antenna to power switch, then a short coax run into your tv's coax input. No crimping or wire cutting tools are needed. Overall I am very pleased with this antenna and recommend it highly.

Great antenna 37 miles away from NY

  • Overall Review:
  • Great antenna 37 miles away from NY, lost one star because the documentation should tell you if using splitters make such to use a splitter that can handle 2.3 GHz. You'll lose a bunch of channels without it because those are the specs for digital OTA tv. The splitter I used was the Klein Tools Digital Cable Splitter 5 MHz-2.3 GHz.
I wrote this review because this is the info I needed to become an official cable cutter but never was able to due not having the right equipment. God Bless

More of a pain than a pleasure

  • Overall Review:
  • was hoping that once I got it up and bolted tightly into place that all the stations I got at first time would hold but no this is not the case. I have to keep readjusting it to get the stations I want then I have to do a new channel search each time. What time waster. What works one time will most likely not work the next. Yes, I know it depends on the air movement but every time I use it an adjustment needs to be made. Shouldn't it lock them in at some point. More of a pain than a pleasure.

Great Antenna

  • Overall Review:
  • I looked over the specs of a number of antennas for my daughter which could not receive any local stations where she lived. I decided on the ANTOP model based on the company claims, and put the antenna to the test when it arrived at my house. I live in a valley where I may only get two local stations over the air, and picked up four when I scanned for channels. Arriving at .my daughter's home. I set the antenna on here back deck and picked up eleven stations in the Spokane, WA area 70 miles away. Picture is clear and daughter is happy.I had a couple of questions for the antenna company an received excellent tech support. I would by this item again.

Review Title:
Excellent antenna worth your consideration and purchase

  • Overall Review:
  • This is the third indoor capable antenna I tried. It is the last one I will try. This worked where two others, including the Mohu leaf, did not. This is also quite a bit more expensive; but, when cutting the cord, a purchase like this will be valuable for years to come.

The downside is this is much larger than other antennas that are strictly marketed as indoor. But, with precise placement, I was able to get all the channels I wanted and couldn't get with the other antenna's I tried. Based on distance of channels, I am able to reach signals slightly over 80 miles away.

If your current antenna doesn't quite cut it, it is worth upgrading to this one. If you are in the market for an antenna, drop the extra cash for this product and end your search.

Great price and easy to install

  • Originally bought an antenna that sticks to the window (for convenience). However, couldn't get a lot of channels and would often get spotty signal. I finally got this which allowed me to put it up high outside. Channels doubled and haven't gotten spotty signal yet.

Definitely recommend as its a great price, easy to install, and picks up signals well.

It works!!!

  • Overall Review:
  • It works!! I went through 2 other antennas and they failed miserably, I started with the ViewTV WA-2900G-UV that claims to have a 200 mile range, it wouldn't pick up 2 towers that were 35 miles away, it picked up 21 channels. I went and picked up the Mohu Sky 60 thinking ok it's a $140 antenna it should work, not so much! It was worse than the ViewTV with only getting 17 channels! The ANTOP was my final attempt at getting the 2 missing networks (NBC, CBS), I got it on the roof ran the channel scan and it picked up 38 channels and all the channels come in crystal clear!!

Longer Range Than AT-414B

  • Overall Review:
  • I installed this antenna on a mast 30ft above the ground on Thursday November 10th 2016. I pointed it towards different towers and rescanned channels on my TV each time. I found the sweat spot where I received all major networks available in my area. PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, WGAL. I was able to pull signal from towers further away from my home with the AT-400B than I could with the AT-414B that I had installed prior. The AT-400B is more directional than the 414B though. I did loose reception of a tower that carries old tv shows in order to focus the area of reception on the major networks. The AT-414B is more Omni directional at a loss of the extended range that you will get with the AT-400B. Compared to the price and effectiveness of the antennas offered at Best Buy this is very competitive and worth considering.
  • The extended Range, Light Weight, Easy to install. Easy to carry up a ladder, The Accessories that were included
  • The signal reception angle could be more broad. I think it is less than 180 degrees.

So far so good

  • Overall Review:
  • Got this for the roof, I live in the Atlanta north side. I deployed this inside just to test. Something I do not recommend because the signal will fade if you or someone else walks near the unit. My first scan came back around 41 channels, after I mounted it on the roof the scan came back with over 103. Now there are a ton of independent channels and also radio stations that also were picked up, but the quality was damn good.

I deducted 1 star because of the company spamming / annoying me via Amazon internal mail system to remind me to leave feedback. Antop, for future customers one mail is enough.

Review Title:
Awesome antenna for indoor and outdoor. Picks up incredible number of stations

  • Overall Review:
  • I am an electrical engineer and a long time ham radio enthusiast. As such, I've studied, built and measured a lot of antennas in my life. When I first opened the box, I knew this was going to be a good one. You can tell that it is designed more like a professional grade communications antenna than your typical cheap consumer grade TV antenna.

First off, the mounting is versatile and sturdy, with three different options: floor/table stand, pole or wall. If mounted on a pole or wall, the mount also swivels in order to adjust the angle +/-20 degrees.

Secondly, the antenna comes with an amplifier and LTE filter which appears to be mounted inside the antenna itself. I didn't open it up, but I surmised this by the fact that you can hear the audible click of a relay inside the antenna when you switch it on. Also, the electronic unit is labeled as a DC injector, which would back this up. This is very good design, since you really want both of these devices at the antenna, and not 40 feet away where the amplifier is useless.

Third, it is hard to compare TV antennas because the manufactures don't publish electrical engineering style measurements and numbers (gain, antenna pattern). However, they rate this as an "80 mile antenna", which is equivalent to a rather large and ugly "yagi" beam (you know, the old style roof mount TV antenna that looks like an arrow). While I can't confirm this for sure, I can say that I live in a location with very poor reception. With a normal indoor TV antenna, I don't get a single channel. I mounted this antenna outdoors by hanging it from a 2nd story window. To my surprise, I received stations all over the place, including in Mexico and up to Los Angeles (I'm in San Diego). So for me, this is more like a >120 mile antenna.

If you are curious, my mount consisted of a 1" PVC pipe that was inserted such that it extends over the top of the antenna. I drilled a hole through the PVC pipe at the top. I then ran a small nylon rope through the top and let it hang from a hook on the inside of the house. I was able to close the window completely with a little force.

I want to know if I install the antenna on my roof outside, can I split the signal outside, so I can run coax through two separate walls, and there for to two separate TV's? I'm thinking coaxial pout of antenna, under the eve, where I mount a splitter to the wall. then, run two separate coaxial cables through separate walls. I already have one amplifier/filter that came with the antenna. that would go on one tv. If I buy another amplifier/filter from you, could I install it on the other tv? Does this make sense, the way I'm describing it? If so, what splitter do I need? Also, would I be able to buy two new amplifier/filter with the usb power cable, so I could power off of TV's external usb.

    • A:
    • You can split the signal outdoors using a splitter that has the All Ports DC Power Pass function. This type of splitter allows you to power the antenna at any of your TVs. This antenna has the amplifier inside the unit, that is turned on or off with a switch on the Smartpass. You can try using an additional amplifier at the other TV if the signal received is pixelating. Our amplifiers (AT-601B) do not work the same as the Smartpass that comes with the AT-400B. The Smartpass that comes with the antenna works to power the amplifier in the antenna with a Power Supply: DC 12V. The AT-601B is a Power Supply: DC 5V/50mA.

    • Q:
    • I just got the AT-400B.

    • User Manual
I just purchased the 400B. Is there a user's manual I can download to get the installation instructions sooner to help my handyman know what he needs ahead of time? And what type and size of pole should I get for attaching to my roof?
    • 2/9/2017
    • A:
    • We currently do not have a user manual available online, but we will email you a PDF copy to the email address above. The maximum size of the diameter of the pole is 2.16 (max.)
    • 2/15/2017
  • There are no entries.

    • Q:
    • Can I hook the Smartpass to the "In" side of a splitter, and then go to separate TVs from the splitter. s
The 3-way splitter is inside the house, going to 2 TVs.
    • 7/21/2017
    • A:
    • If your Splitter has the All Ports Powerpass function, then you can connect the Smartpass/Power Inserter anywhere in the line. If your Splitter does not have the All Ports Power Pass function, the Smartpass /Power Inserter would need to be connected before you split the lines. For example: Antenna connected to the coaxial cable Coaxial cable connected to the Smartpass /Power Inserter Smartpass /Power Inserter connected to the Splitter If you have any questions or trouble, please contact our Antop Support Team at (909)947-8883 They are available M-F 9 AM -5 PM (PST)

    • Q:
    • Can a more powerful powered amplifier be used, if so what is the gain on the one provided
      AT-400b
    • 12/18/2016
    • A:
    • The gain of the Smartpass amplifier is 20 dBs. You may amplify the signal that is already being received. If you over amplify, you will not receive any signal. If you need any help in selecting an antenna, please contact our Support Team. Thank you
